The Bedford Hotel - Home of the Devon Cream Tea

The Bedford Hotel is famously known as the birthplace of the Devon Cream Tea. In the 19th century, local workers restoring Tavistock Abbey (on this very site) were served bread with clotted cream and jam, a tradition that soon flourished. Today, The Bedford proudly continues this delicious Devonshire heritage.

Our Devon Cream Tea

Your Devon Cream Tea at The Bedford includes a large, warm, home-made scone, scrumptious strawberry jam from Hogs Bottom Garden Preserves, and indulgent clotted cream from Langage Farm Dairy (plus plenty of tea or coffee, naturally).

Cream teas aren't just for teatime!  Our perfect Devon Cream Tea is served all day, and can be enjoyed in our welcoming lounges (or in our beautiful gardens, on a warmer day).

Cream First or Jam First?

What goes on first - the clotted cream or the strawberry jam?  Our Devon tradition is definitely cream-first, but whichever you prefer, our Devon Cream Tea is an equally delicious treat!
