Tavistock Heritage Walks

As one of Devon's most historic market towns, Tavistock is a fascinating place to explore on foot - and from The Bedford Hotel, you're perfectly placed to discover it all.

Of course, you can spend a leisurely day browsing Tavistock's independent shops, visiting the award-winning Pannier Market, and enjoying walks beside the River Tavy. But for a deeper insight into the town's rich past, we highly recommend joining one of the guided heritage walks organised by Tavistock Heritage Trust.

Led by knowledgeable local guides, these fascinating walking tours bring centuries of history to life, revealing the stories behind Tavistock's abbey, market town traditions, industrial heritage and railway history. As part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tavistock has a remarkable story to tell.

A varied programme of guided walks runs from July to October, offering visitors the chance to discover different aspects of the town's heritage and character. Whether you're visiting Tavistock for the first time or returning to uncover more of its history, a heritage walk is a wonderful way to experience this unique corner of Devon.

And don't forget to take time to enjoy a bite to eat, something to drink, or our famous Devon Cream Tea at The Bedford Hotel before or after your walk!
