Enjoy our Gardens
Our gardens are a joy at any time of year. But come the end of June, and you’ll find everything at its peak.
The lawns are lush and well-tended, the borders are packed with colour and life, and the hanging baskets cascade their impressive display of blooms for all to enjoy.
Take a seat in our pretty front garden, and enjoy a morning coffee, a spot of lunch al-fresco, a Devon Cream Tea (local strawberry jam always tastes especially delicious in the garden!), or an early evening tipple.
Or for a real escape, head across our little bridge to our secret walled garden (ask us to show you the way!). Here you can relax in peace, and enjoy the buzz of busy bees, and the scents of traditional cottage-garden flowers and herbs. You’re welcome to collect a drink or a bite to eat from the bar, and take it with you to enjoy in the walled gardens.
If you are passionate about gardens, you’ll find plenty to visit when you stay with at The Bedford Hotel. Enjoy a walk through the lush and leafy Meadows public gardens which run alongside the river just a short stroll from The Bedford. Or jump in the car and visit The Garden House, where you’ll find 10 acres of truly inspiring gardens in a tranquil woodland setting.
We can also recommend a visit to Cotehele House and Gardens, in the nearby Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Tudor house sits high above the River Tamar, and is surrounded by formal gardens, meandering pathways through lush shrubs and woodland, a tranquil pond, kitchen garden and apple orchard.
