Dickensian Evening in Tavistock
Friday 6th December 2024
Dickensian Evening is one of the highlights of Tavistock's annual events calendar - and it kicks off the festive season in fine Dickensian style!
This magical late-night shopping experience takes you right back in time as local shopkeepers embrace the Dickensian spirit and dress up in traditional attire. With the backdrop of Tavistock's wonderful Christmas lights, the town is alive with entertainment on every street corner, while the smell of roast chestnuts fills the air and atmospheric steam traction engines add to the bustling night scene.
There'll be choirs, bands, stilt walkers and street entertainment, and an old-fashioned merry-go-round fairground ride and candy floss for the children. Butcher's Hall will be packed with festive craft, food and drink stalls.
Dickensian Evening starts at 5pm, with the official Christmas lights switch-on at 5:45pm.
The Bedford will be open as usual on Dickensian Evening, with a full evening menu in the restaurant, bar and lounges, and our Gallery 26 function suite open for extra space. We'll also have the Edge Singers and the Tavy Tars putting in guest appearances during the evening.
Whether you're looking for a bite to eat, a warming glass of mulled wine or a traditional Dartmoor Brewery ale, a warm welcome awaits at The Bedford.
