The Bedford Hotel Front View

Our Anniversary Celebration Break

October 2024 marks a special milestone for us, as we celebrate 25 years of Warm Welcome Hotels owning our beloved Bedford Hotel, in the heart of beautiful Tavistock.

There are records of an inn on this site as far back as 1719, with The Bedford opening its doors as a hotel in 1822. In October 1999, the hotel was acquired by Warm Welcome Hotels, and we have spent the past 25 years sympathetically upgrading and restoring the building and its facilities for the benefit of our customers and our town.

We invite you to join us for a weekend of grand celebrations, exceptional food, and our famously warm and traditional hospitality!

Friday 4th October 2024

Your room will be ready for you from 3pm - but do feel free to arrive earlier and enjoy our lounges, and perhaps a spot of lunch?

This evening, we look forward to welcoming you with a drinks reception and canapés.

We will invite you to take your seats in our stylish Gallery 26, where our good friend and local historian Alex Mettler will present a talk on the fascinating history of The Bedford Hotel and its place in the heart of Tavistock.

A delicious buffet supper will be served, and there will be plenty of opportunity for friends old and new to catch up and share experiences and memories. We will also be marking the occasion with long service awards for some of our team.

Saturday 5th October

Start the day in fine style, with our hearty Devon Breakfast served in the Woburn Restaurant, followed by a leisurely morning enjoying the hotel or taking a stroll around lovely Tavistock, with its fine independent shops, famous Pannier Market and leafy riverside walks.

This afternoon renowned local guide Simon Dell will lead a leisurely 90-minute guided walk, giving you the chance to learn more about the long history of The Bedford and its place in our wonderful town of Tavistock (now designated a World Heritage Town).

Following the walk, we look forward to serving you our famous Devon Cream Tea, and local heritage expert Geri Parlby will give a short talk on the history of the cream tea and its humble beginnings here in Tavistock.

This evening, following a pre-dinner drink with our compliments, your place awaits at our Gala Dinner in Gallery 26, where you'll enjoy a four-course dinner prepared by our award-winning kitchen team, and live jazz from the ever-popular Fine Whines.

Sunday 6th October

After breakfast, we hope that you'll join us for some fresh Dartmoor air and glorious views, with a leisurely guided walk in the company of Simon Dell, and our hotel director Sarah Howard, meeting at the Two Bridges Hotel.

For those able to linger a little longer, you may like to consider booking a traditional Sunday Lunch at either The Bedford Hotel or the Two Bridges Hotel.

We'll be sorry to say farewell, but delighted that you could join us to share in our celebrations!
